NGO Openbook is the transparency tool of the Belgian NGOs active in development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The general term "NGO" used in this site also includes other civil society organizations such as syndical organizations.
Across the world, these Belgian NGOs are continuously working alongside their local partners for the empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Supported by a strong social base as well as the Belgian government, they implement their projects in all transparency.
NGO-Openbook makes this transparency tangible by presenting key information about Belgian NGOs, their projects, their finances, their human resources, the countries they are active in and their sectors of intervention, in the form of interactive maps and data visualisation.
Belgian NGOs in development and humanitarian aid prioritize transparency to show how funds are used, stay accountable to donors, and enhance impact. As non-profits, they rely on public grants and fundraising.
Tools like NGO-Openbook help build trust and foster collaboration by making information accessible, encouraging shared learning, and improving efficiency.
Clarity in funding and actions builds lasting confidence among donors and communities.
Transparency unlocks coordination, helping NGOs work smarter and amplify their impact.
Open reporting shows where resources go — and what difference they make.
The site presents a profile of each NGO with information such as mission, sector(s) of activities, work in partner countries and/or in Belgium and of course, contact information to allow visitors to learn more about the organisations and their activities.
NGO-Openbook shows how NGOs spend their resources—whether on development cooperation or humanitarian aid—and how those costs are distributed (e.g. program, structural, fundraising). It also provides insight into where their funding comes from.
A very diverse range of human resources are employed by the Belgian development and humanitarian NGOs. NGO-Openbook shows this diversity and focuses on 3 types of human resources: employees in Belgium, expats and local staff.
NGO-Openbook showcases selected projects from Belgian NGOs, mostly co-funded by the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (DGD) and published using the IATI standard. Each project includes a description, country details, local partners, sector, implementation status, finances, and progress indicators.
